Ever since the Ipad has been released there has been a tonne of hype about the Ipad and tablets in general.  Everyone is buying them but why? What can this Ipad do that is so good? What is an Ipad?

To make this easier let me start by saying what an Ipad is.  An Ipad is a tablet computer.  A tablet computer is a portable/ mobile device with a touch screen interface and it doesn't have a keyboard or mouse.  A tablet computer or an Ipad is mainly used for surfing the internet, checking emails, watching videos, reading books, playing, games listening to music, reading maps, running apps and possibly a couple of more things all on the go.  So that is what a tablet computer is mainly used for and hence this is what an Ipad does also.  However different tablets can do this better than others and do things that other tablets can't.

So  What can an Ipad do? 

With the above reasons of why people use tablets in mind here is a list of things that the Ipad can do.

1. The ipad can allow you to connect to the web and surf the internet.  It can do this via wifi or 3g depending on what model you use and uses safari browser.

The truth is the Ipad and other tablets are whatever the user makes of them.  Apps define it and make it what it is and there are thousands of them and growing everyday making the Ipad more special.  

What can an Ipad not do?

Since the Ipad and other tablets rely heavily on apps they can potentially do a tonne of things.  However there very nature of a tablet still does prevent them from doing things that the likes of a computer can do which is what sets these two pieces of life changing technology apart.

1. For instance the ipad can not do multi tasking.  You are either using an app or not.  In this case the ipad will switch between programs when you move on to it.

3. The ipad cannot run high performance programs.  By this I mean the likes of computer aided design and other high performance draining applications that should be run on a pc.

5. The ipad cannot run flash which is what a huge percentage of websites use although this technology is gradually becoming obsolete.
